Gilbert Chabrol de Volcic (Riom, 25 September 1773 – Paris, 30 April 1843) was a bridge and road engineer and participated in the Egyptian campaign.
From 31 January 1806 to 23 December 1812 he was prefect of the Napoleonic Administration in the Montenotte department, divided between Liguria and the lower Ponente, with Savona as capital.
During the Chabrol administration, Savona experienced an extremely prosperous period, thanks to which the city began a slow revival. In memory of this rebirth, Savona dedicated a piazza to him in the historical centre.br />On 23 December 1812, on his return from the Russian campaign, Napoleon, unhappy with the prefect Frochot, called Chabrol to take the post of prefect of the Seine department. In 1814, the king named him State Advisor and officer of the Legion of Honour.
