Paolo Bargigli

Paolo Bargigli (Livorno, 1760 – after 1815) was an architect in Napoleon’s entourage and professor at the Fine Arts Academy in Carrara. He owed his fortune to the projects given to him in Massa and Carrara by Élisa Baiocchi, Napoleon’s sister, primary among them being the work on the Ducal Palace and the Piazza Aranci in Massa and the new seat for the Fine Arts Academy in Carrara.

This fame made him sought–after by Napoleon, who entrusted him with the building of the Teatro degli Impavidi in Sarzana and the renovation of Napoleonic residences on the island of Elba.
